Still countersinking the main spar, I had to modify my little jig to drill the holes for the nutplates not parallel to the edge.



Then I fabricated the spacers which will be part of the tie-down assembly. They got cut from some aluminium bar and then you just have to drill the 1" hole.



Then you have to drill the second part of the assembly. On the picture, the part is positionned above the spacers and then on the spar. First you drill the one hole on the top right, this allows you to slip in a bolt to position the assembly. Then the other holes get backdrilled.
This did not work as planned, the first hole is slightly misplaced to the left and my assembly slipped a little bit, so I have some edge distance issue with the bottom left hole. I don't think is an issue because there will be a nutplate there but the part is only 4,16$ and I already have an order to be delivered soon. There still a lot do do, missing this part won't hamper my progress.

All the ribs are now sorted and marked, Sabine did this job. The name of the parts is somewhat disturbing, L(eft) marked parts go on the right wing!!!!
Now we have to deburr and flute all the ribs.

Working on the spar begins with the installation of nutplates for the fuel tanks. Each nutplate position needs three countersinks: two for the rivets and one for the screw. There are 150 nutplates.
The countersinking for the rivets goes very smoothly, fot the screw it's a bit different as the aluminium is not very thick, the pilot wanders on the other side. So I built a small jig with a steel bar and two rivets, it's visible on the picture and just held in position by a clamp.



The good depth of countersinking is reached when the outer diameter is 0,370 (+ or - 0,005) inches. I think I got his one right.

With Guillaume we took the main spars out of storage. They look great and most important they are already assembled and primed. I just marked them so as they are used the right way. There still remains a lot to be done on these two parts.
I finished the day by continuing the workshop reorganization, I still have to build the new paint booth.

End of left aileron assemnly. The ailerons are now stored under the roof of the workshop.
