Today I worked in small sessions; first I needed almost two hours to square the aft fuselage. The pictures show the method I used. Then I drilled the J-channels. First by drilling one hole out of five, putting in the cleco and then drilling the remaining holes. Here is a picture of the first step. And the interior after the second step. Working time on this subpart Today : 4h (Total : 8h) |

Today, with Sabine's help, we begun assembling the rear fuselage. This begins with the two aftermost bulkheads being clecoed to a small skin. This skin needs to be formed to fit correctly the bulkheads. The second picture shows there is still a gap between the skin and the bulkhead. After one hour of work I got an acceptable fit. Then the next bulkheads are assembled to the lower skin. Some six J-channel stiffeners have to be cut and their extremities trimmed to fit the bulkheads. Then the side skins, the first bulkhead and the small back skin are assembled. The picture while seeming to show a big progress is somewhat misleading as we now have to get a better fit for the bulkheads, drill the stiffeners after making sure their is no twist, drill the skins and as usual, deburr, dimple, prime and rivet everything. For the time being, we are progressing slowly due to more work at work, some small health problems, and more time for the family. Today, I worked two hours beginning with small priming touch-up work on the bulkheads. Then I finished riveting the seats bulkhead. At the end I notice that I have a small problem with the fork where the rear wing spar will be bolted. The two parts of the fork are not aligned by 3/32" and this will reduce the margin when drilling the spar by 3/16". As there is not to much play in this area, I decided to order new parts. On the picture, the small margin left between the black lines. Working time on this subpart Today : 2h (Total : 58h) |

Today, I began riveting the bulkheads. I managed to finish all those of the aft fuselage, despite some small details to be arranged and some not so easy to set rivets. I also riveted partially the seat bulkhead. One has to be careful as a lot of rivets are omitted at this stage and will be riveted later. I didn't complete this part as I have to check how the materal parts get riveted to the upper and lower parts. Working time on this subpart Today : 6h (Total : 56h) |
