This mornings all the parts I have assembled for the last five and a half year officially became an airplane after inspection by the authorities.
First the inspector checked the paperwork ; weight and balance, maintance schedule, engine, propeller and radio release papers. He then inspected the airframe, found a missing screw on a wing root fairing and two caps that need to be safetywired on the engine.
He finally declared the we have a plane.
First flight will be planned once I get the release papers from the authorities, usually takes between one and two weeks.

Today I finally installed the wing root fairings with the seal upright.
I also compensated the wet commpass, I'll have to do it precisely later.
I checked the wiring and connexions of the right magnétometer, everything seems correct but I'm still unable to calibrate it. I'll check with GRT.
I then started the engine and checked the right fuel tank, the magnetos, the loading of the EFIS battery, and the P-mag internal alternator.
After engine cut-off, I noticed some oil on the left side of the firewall. I found a lower spark plug that was not torqued correctly.
I initially wanted to taxy the aircraft but will do it next time.
Tomorrow, the plane will get it's final inspection.

Today at the hangar I met Jéremy, whose RV-8 has been flyiong for a few months now. I told him I wanted to try to start the engine and he offered to help.
So we first disconnected the fuel line after the gascolator and ran the fuel pump, we did the same after having disconnected the line at the spider inlet.
We cranked the engine with the top plugs off, to get the oil pressure up.
We then got the plane out of the hangar, choked it, tied it to Jeremy's car. The engine started after two blades and died. I had forgotten to open the fuel valve!!!
The second start went again without problem, I tested both mags, the alternator and all seemed to work properly. Only glitch was high idle RPM.
After two minutes I shut down, put the plane back in the hangar, checkd for leaks and ajusted the throttle throw to be able idle the engine.
I will have a video of all this tomorrow.

I then worked on the wingroot fairings to notice that since I'm struggling with them, I install the seal the wrong way (upside down).
The picture shows the wrong way with a little dip on top of the seal.

This is how it has to be done, the top being smmoth.

No pictures today, some work was done but no real progress.
I began by cutting the wing root fairings. Trying to get the gap the smallest possible, I iterated which is tedious. I will finish next time.
I the calibrated the fuel gauges by transfering the fuel to the right tank. I did not see a leak for the time being.
I also trid, without success, to calibrate the right magnetometer. I know the wiring is correct, may be there is a problem with one of the connectors.
