While wainting for the proseal to dry, I begin the installations on the engine. First an non event, the hanging of the alternator. All the parts fit right out of the box. I still have to safety wire the bolts and install the belt properly. Then I reinstall all the baffling. There is some cutting and tweaking ahead. This is the rear bracket, with one of the injection lines. And the engine with all the baffles installed. To end the working session, I decided to fabricate the baffles lower connecting rods. A task not as easy as anticipated. One has just to cut, bend and thread some stainless steel pins. The picture shows two of the four rods. The threading was somewhat difficult and it weakened the lower ro enough that when I tried to get a better bend radius the rod just broke. A new order for Vans lies in the future. Before hanging the engines, I decide to install all the baffles parts that can be done without the cowl. The picture shows all the parts I could install. Quite a lot of tweaking had to be done, mostly around the rocker covers. This is a viaw from the rear left. The oil cooler will be installed there, but it's final position can only be known after the cowl has been installed. This is the front right with the oil line for the propeller governor (the grommet is missing). This is the aft baffle support bracket. To install it I had to remove two bolts on the engine case and one end of the right rear cylinder fule injection line. The small bracket that hold the fuel line clamp can not go back to it's position on the crankcase bolt as the bolt would be to short. I will bolt it to the baffle support bracket. I also begun to deburr all the parts that won't have to be touched again. Working time on this subpart Today : 3h (Total : 29h) |

Another work session on the baffles. I first rivet the parts I worked on yesterday. Here is one of the parts with the doublers riveted after deburring, dimpling and some priming I then deburr all the small parts as the production process leaves them quite rough Then I begin working on the forward parts, with the right side. There are five parts to assemble. On this part I have to install a grommet for the propeller regulation oil line. The engine is equipped for constant speed, but I will install a fixed pitch propeller. Working time on this subpart Today : 3h (Total : 25h) |
