Before working on the tips, I want to uninstall the whole empennage. I first tackle a problem I found after drilling the horizontal stabilizer to the fuselage. After taking the stab of the fuselage, the hole in the longeron looked somewhat ovalized. I decided to install an oversized bolt (on the right in the picture) instead of the standard bolt. To do this, I also needed the correct reamer which makes this the most expensive bolt in the plane. Here the bolt in place. Then the workshop gets rearranged and cleaned. ANd a closer look at the tips shows the vertical stabilizer tip being lower than the rudder tip. A small amount of epoxy will take care of this, I'll make a smooth transition tomorrow. I also sand all the other tips and get them prepared for the finish filling. Working time on this subpart Today : 3h (Total : 32h) |

The weather being to bad to fly to the general assembly of the Van's Club de France in Roanne (center of France), I work on the tips with a first session of sanding. The epoxy-microballoon is quite hard to sand once cured. Then I continue filling the seven tips and notice that some have not been done yet (there are two sides per tip). Only one hour is the workshop to take the elevators of the fuselage and fill some parts. The weather is a bit too cool for the epoxy to cure rapidly, so sanding will be done later. Working time on this subpart Today : 1h (Total : 27h) |
