The day begins quite bad as I notice that despite my efforts to set the Z-brackets properly, I managed to mix-up my left and my right. So they are oriented correctly, but they are in the wrong order. First idea is to disassemble all the brackets and assemble again everything correctly. I decide to drill out first the outermost bracket and to rivet them at the correct place. I now have three brackets correctly set : the two outermosts and the middle one which has not to move. I then decide to install the tank on the spar and have the good surprise to see that I can insert all the bolts. That's quite a happy end. I then close the tanks, first the inspection hole cover. Then the fuel gauge, and to finish all the rivets get prosealed. Working time on this subpart Today : 4h (Total : 80h) |

Today, I begun closing the left tank. It's not difficult but quite long. On the picture, the rear baffle is in position. See all the clecos that will have to be cleaned. And here, four hours later. The Z-brackets are pop riveted, and their orientation is better checked twice as it would be quite difficult to dissassemble later. For this tank I still have to install the fuel gauge and the inspection door cover. Working time on this subpart Today : 4h (Total : 76h) |

Today I finished the inboard rib, I installed the pick-up tubes, the vent line and return line fittings. First I had to apply a Vans Service Bulletin requesting to safety wire the pick-up linre nuts. Here is a picture of both sides. Then I installed the fittings. I then inspected and cleaned everything. The tanks are now on hold as I'm waiting for the tools to torque the nuts before closing. Today I riveted the las tank rib. Before closing the tanks I still have to finish this rib, by installing the fule pick-up, the different lines and the inspection plate. On the picture you can see the angle that will attach the tank to the fuselage, and the reinforcing plate that goes on the rib inside the tank. Working time on this subpart Today : 1h (Total : 67h) |
